Ray Gillette

Ray Gillette is ISIS's openly gay agent (a fact Archer 'discovered' in Season 1 despite it being obvious) and the team's pilot. He's competent, sarcastic, and the only one who consistently calls out Archer's bullshit — which makes him Archer's closest thing to a best friend.

Ray's paralysis (caused by Archer's recklessness in Season 2) leads to Krieger's experimental cyborg legs, which become a running upgrade gag. His backstory as a former drug dealer from West Virginia ('Gillette, West Virginia — we got a Dairy Queen') adds depth to his deadpan delivery.

Ray's sexuality is handled with surprising progressiveness for a 2009 show — he's not the butt of gay jokes; the jokes are about how *Archer* reacts to his sexuality. His brother Randy (a meth-dealing redneck) appears in a memorable episode.
